BioProperty

BioProperty is a research programme on the future of property rights in biomedical research at the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society, University of Oxford. BioProperty investigates the evolving structures of ownership in the life sciences. The project encompasses three areas of biomedical innovation: research and development on neglected tropical diseases, the circulation of genetically modified animals and human/animal mixtures, and the development and use of pluripotent stem cells. In these three areas we investigate practices of exchange and appropriation, the evolution of intellectual property rights, and the effects of patents on the productivity of scientific research and the distribution of access to its products. BioProperty is funded by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council.
