On 30 May, Steve Rayner and Sophie Haines convened a one-day workshop on ‘Anthropologies of Forecasting Weather and Climate’, under the Oxford Martin Programme on Resource Stewardship. Organised as a way to extend discussions from the RAI conference, the workshop was attended by nearly 20 participants, including scholars from UK, USA, Norway, Brazil, Argentina and Denmark – mostly anthropologists but also colleagues from geography, STS, history of science, and physics. Round table discussions throughout the day addressed the following themes: ‘times and spaces of forecasting’; ‘usability and uncertainty’; working across disciplines and domains’; ‘governance and accountability’; and ‘impacts and interventions’. The group also discussed plans to develop a scholarly network and we hope to plan more events for the future.
