Dr Noëlle Rohde

Postdoctoral Affiliate

Noëlle is a social anthropologist with interdisciplinary links to philosophy, in particular to social epistemology and ethics. She is interested primarily in quantification, and the effects of applying the numerical to human characteristics, behaviour or performance.

In her doctoral research at Oxford’s School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, Noëlle investigated the lived experience of  ‘being quantified’ through an ethnography of the school grade, and developed both a virtue-based and a rights-based approach to an ethics of quantification.

Besides quantification, Noëlle’s professional interests are critiques of meritocracy, technology ethics, and epistemic injustice.
